Book Club

This year, I have begun a morning book club.  It is going great, and we been reading a book called Lock Down Escape from Furnace by Alexander Gordan Smith.  The kids love the book, and it really keeps them interested.  They all have made a blog using Blogger (my favorite blog site.)  We are all getting into blogging, and it is getting me back to blogging as well.  We listen along as it plays on Audible.com.  This is a site where you can download books to listen.  There is a fee, but the first three months it is only $9.00 or so.  If anyone knows of another site where you can get the audio version of a book, please let me know.  This one is okay, but I have a hard time getting back to the place we stopped even though I book marked it.
Here is the link to the author's website. http://www.alexandergordonsmith.com/

Even though there are sequels to the book.  We will take a break from this book and read the Mortal Instruments Series and begin with the first one City of Bones.  The students are really looking forward to this one.  After each book, we will celebrate with a special breakfast!  Come join us at 8:00 every morning Monday through Friday.
Well I haven't been doing good keeping up with my blog, but I promise to do better.  The last post I made was last year about our Poetry Slam.  It was awesome!!  Some great guys from the Fort Worth Slam Team came out and showed us how a Slam should be done.  They coached the kids, judged them, and one of the guys was the master of ceremony.  We had a great time and the kids loved it.  We had almost 20 kids participate in two rounds.  There were prizes given and snacks served in the end.

This year our slam will be on November 1, 2012 in conjunction with our "Family Literacy Night." The poetry slam is really catching on and proving to be very popular. It is an intimate event, so we will have it in the cafeteria.   The TCU students together with Impossible Possibilities, are having a poetry event at TCU October 27th from 5-8 pm. They will behaving a writing workshop as well as a Slam.  Everyone is welcome and it is free. So come on out and see what a slam is all about.
